Post Cabinet Statement – Resilience and Recovery: The Path Ahead

Ireland continues to make cautious progress through the Recovery phase of the pandemic, with reopening plans for April, May and June now completed. We have continued to ease restrictions in a careful manner through July - new rules are now in place allowing for non-essential international travel and indoor dining has recommenced for those with proof of being fully vaccinated or having recovered from Covid-19. Proof includes EU Digital Covid Certificate or HSE Vaccination Card (see gov.ie/reopeninghospitality)

Today, Government has decided that, with effect from Thursday 05 August 2021, the maximum number of guests permitted to attend a wedding will increase from 50 to 100 (current protective measures apply). Baptism services may proceed, however, they must follow all protective measures and social gatherings afterwards should be avoided.

The Government has also accepted advice from NIAC that recommends the extension of the vaccination programme to children aged 12-15. This will be reviewed from a planning, operational and clinical perspective in the coming days.

Thanks to the considerable support of the Irish people, our vaccination programme continues to progress at pace with over 5.5 million doses administered, over 69% of people fully vaccinated and over 83% partially vaccinated. Anyone aged 16 and over can now register for a vaccine.

Our Economic Recovery Plan provides clarity on supports and charts a course to help people get back to work.

The incidence of the Delta variant in Ireland poses a significant risk, particularly to those who are not yet fully vaccinated. The Government continues to follow its plan to review and monitor the control of the virus and follow the prevailing public health advice in support of, and to protect, a safe and gradual reopening.

In coming weeks, the focus will be on protecting the progress we have made and Government urges people and businesses to exercise caution and to redouble their efforts in practicing the basic measures that continue to provide protection against Covid19. Everyone should choose outdoor activities ahead of indoors, particularly those who are unvaccinated. It is important to practise all good public health behaviours – social distancing, handwashing and respiratory etiquette. If indoors, good ventilation is essential – poorly ventilated or crowded indoor locations should be avoided.
