Appointment of Second Secretary General

 The Government today (12th July 2011) appointed Ms. Geraldine Byrne Nason to be Second Secretary General at the Department of the Taoiseach.

Ms. Byrne Nason will have responsibility for the management of an integrated EU Co-ordination Function, with some staff relocating from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade to the Department of the Taoiseach, for support for the Government Economic Management Council, and for co-ordinating support for the Tánaiste in his whole-of-government responsibilities through the Office of the Tánaiste within the Department of the Taoiseach.

Ms. Byrne Nason is currently Ambassador, Deputy Permanent Representative of Ireland to the European Union. Her previous career has included service as Director of the National Forum on Europe, seven years with the OECD including as Director for Governance and Public Management, as well as service in Ireland’s Representation to the United Nations and the OSCE.
