Appointment to the post of Secretary General of the Department of Justice and Equality
At its meeting yesterday the Government approved the appointment of Mr Brian Purcell to the post of Secretary General of the Department of Justice and Equality with effect from 1st August 2011 on the retirement of Mr Sean Aylward. Mr Purcell is currently the Director General of the Irish Prison Service. Aged 53 years, Mr. Purcell was educated in O’Connell’s CBS, UCD and Trinity College Dublin.
In accordance with the TLAC arrangements for Secretaries General, Mr Purcell's appointment is for a 7 year term.
