Appointment of Chair and new members to the Board of the National Library of Ireland

The Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Catherine Martin TD, has appointed Mr Eoin McVey as Chair of the National Library of Ireland. Mr McVey has already served on the Board for the past five years as an ordinary member.

The Minister has also appointed the following as members of the National Library Board:

• Ms Lisa Grimm,

• Professor Kalpana Shankar,

• Professor Ciarán Ó hÓgartaigh,

• Mr John Grenham,

• Ms Lorelei Harris, and

• Ms Caitriona Sharkey

These appointments were made following an open competition operated by the Public Appointments Service. The appointments were made in accordance with the National Cultural Institutions Act 1997 and are for a term of 5 years.

Welcoming the appointments, the Minister said:

“I am delighted to appoint Mr. Eoin McVey as Chair of the Board of the National Library of Ireland. Eoin brings a wealth of experience to the role and will play a crucial part in steering the National Library through the many challenges that Covid-19 has brought to the cultural sector.

“I am also delighted to appoint six members to the Board. I know these new members will ensure that the National Library continues to be one of our pre-eminent National Cultural Institutions. I thank all the Board Members for taking on these roles and bringing their skills and expertise to the Board. I also want to thank Board members whose terms have expired, for their strong contributions over several years.”
