Call for Expressions of Interest – Chairperson/Members of the National Oversight and Audit Commission

The Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, Mr. Phil Hogan TD, has today, 9 May 2014, published an

advertisement

on his Department’s website seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced persons for appointment to the National Oversight and Audit Commission.

Minister Hogan said “The Local Government Reform Act 2014 provides a new mechanism for oversight of local authority performance through a National Oversight and Audit Commission for Local Government. The Commission will provide independent, high quality scrutiny of local government performance in fulfilling national, regional and local mandates.”

“It will have a focus on the quality and efficiency of delivery at local level to the communities and people that the local government system serves, and will have an overarching view of performance, with a power to make recommendations to councils where needed” continued the Minister, “This is an opportunity for suitable skilled individuals to input directly in to strengthening and developing the efficiency agenda within the local government sector”

. Expressions of interest are also being requested through

www.StateBoards.ie

All appointments will be made in accordance with provisions as set out in

Section 61

of the Local Government Reform Act 2014.

Expressions of interest should be accompanied by a detailed curriculum vitae not exceeding 3 pages outlining the person’s qualification for appointment, their area of expertise, relevant experience and qualifications, skills and competencies, and also set out clearly any actual or potential conflicts of interest were they to be appointed to the Commission.

The

Code of Practice for the Governance of State Bodies 2009

includes a description of the roles and responsibilities of Directors. In considering applications due regard will be given to Government policy on gender balance on State Boards.
