Coast Guard assists Spanish Authorities

The Coast Guard Coordination Centre at Valentia last night at 2100hrs received a MAYDAY transmission from the Fishing Vessel Novo Jundina on the medium range distress frequency 2182Khz.  The Vessel notified MRSC Valentia that it was taking water and requested immediate evacuation.  The communications were conducted in the Spanish Language by the officers at Valentia who established all relevant details.  The vessel was located approx. 40 nautical miles north west of La Coruña and co-ordination was passed to MRCC Finisterre (Spanish Co-ordination) shortly after.  Spanish Helicopter Helimer 401 and rescue boat Salvamar Shaula were tasked and 11 crew were airlifted from the vessel.
