Coveney Congratulates new President of Macra Na Feirme

The Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Simon Coveney TD, today congratulated Alan Jagoe on his election as incoming President of Macra na Feirme and the three newly elected vice-presidents.

Minister Coveney said

"I look forward to working with Alan and his colleagues in Macra na Feirme in the interests of advancing Irish agriculture and the Irish agri-food sector over the coming months and years. As a former member of Macra na Feirme, I value the contribution which the organisation makes and, in particular, the very valuable role that it plays in promoting the issues of concern to young farmers throughout the country. At a time when there is such increased optimism about farming and such interest in agriculture-related courses, our young farmers represent the future of a dynamic industry that will play an increasingly important role in the economic life of this country."

The Minister confirmed that he would be inviting the outgoing President and the new President-elect to an early meeting and said that he looked forward

"to a constructive exchange of views on the future of Irish agriculture and the Irish agri-food business"
