Coveney welcomes new restrictions on the advertising of food to children

Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Simon Coveney TD, today welcomed an announcement from BAI that it had exempted cheese from new restrictions on the advertising of food to children.

Minister Coveney said that he was delighted that common sense had prevailed, and he hoped that the new code of practice could make a genuine contribution to tackling obesity among children. Referring to today’s announcement, Minister Coveney said "I am delighted that common sense has prevailed on this important issue. Irish dairy produce has an unrivalled reputation for quality and safety worldwide. I am glad that in considering this matter, all of the relevant authorities recognised the critically important role that dairy products, including cheese, play as a part of a healthy, balanced diet for our children".
