CSO’s QNHS shows continued increase in the numbers at work

Employment in Q1 is up 0.8%, which equates to an additional 15,000 jobs relative to the last quarter of 2015
In annual terms, numbers in employment are up by just under 47,000 (2.4%)
The level of employment is now at highest level since Q1 2009. At just shy of the 2 million mark it will likely break this threshold in Q2
Unemployment continues to fall - the rate in the first quarter was 8.3% its lowest since end-2008
Revisions to the monthly unemployment rate throughout 2016 on account of the new QNHS benchmark available today leave the end-April rate of unemployment at 7.9

Today’s Quarterly National Household Survey (QNHS) published by the CSO shows that the Irish economy continues to generate significant jobs growth and that the Action Plan for Jobs continues to have a positive effect. Welcoming the figures, Minister for Finance Michael Noonan T.D. said:
“The data released today show that the numbers at work continue to grow and that the level of employment is now just shy of the 2 million mark. We have now seen 14 consecutive quarters of employment growth. This growth remains broad-based, with 12 of the 14 sectors reported by the CSO showing annual growth. Only a strong economy supporting people at work can pay for the services needed to create a fair society."
"The new Partnership Government is focused on providing the best environment for business and job creation."
"Over 151,000 jobs have been created since the launch of the Action Plan for Jobs in early 2012. The Programme for Government reaffirmed the Action Plan for Jobs as the best method to consult with all stakeholders and progress the best ideas on job creation across Government."
"Our ambition is to help create 200,000 new jobs by 2020, including 135,000 outside of Dublin. Supporting a balanced recovery across all regions and all sectors will help workers and their families feel the benefits of recovery."
