DAVY TO ADVISE ON NATIONAL LOTTERY LICENCE

The Minister for Expenditure & Public Reform, Mr Brendan Howlin TD, today announced the appointment of Davy Corporate Finance as financial & commercial advisers to his Department in relation to the next National Lottery licence. The appointment is on foot of a tendering process.

The Minister announced in April that the Government has decided to hold a competition for the next National Lottery licence and that the licence will be for a 20 year period.

“My officials will be working with Davy to establish the precise nature of the competitive process for the licence and the associated timelines.” He added “that developments in this regard will be made known to the market as soon as they are finalised.”

“There is considerable interest in the licence both domestically and internationally – my officials have met interested parties and further engagements, in advance of the formal competitive process, will continue with the assistance of Davy as our advisers.”

The present licence was issued in December 2001 to An Post National Lottery Company. That licence expires at the end of June 2013. In April the Government decided to take advantage of the opportunity presented by the expiry of the existing licence and move towards a longer-term lease arrangement that would involve a large upfront payment to the State, while still retaining significant annual revenues for Good Causes.
