Jimmy Deenihan T.D., Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, has today welcomed the official launch of the Wild Atlantic Way by his colleague, the Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Michael Ring T.D. Fáilte Ireland is investing €10 million during 2014 in the route which stretches from the Inishowen Peninsula in Donegal to Kinsale in County Cork and Minister Deenihan is confident that the route will be a major success.

Commenting on the launch, Minister Deenihan said:

“As well as featuring some of Ireland’s finest scenery, The Wild Atlantic Way provides tourists with a wonderful opportunity to explore some of Ireland’s greatest heritage sites. These include several iconic National Monuments in the care of my Department, such as Dún Aonghasa on Inis Mór, as well as Sceilg Mhichíl, one of Ireland’s three World Heritage Sites.”

“Also along the route are five of Ireland’s six National Parks and a number of historic towns. The five national Parks, from Glenveagh in the north to Killarney in the south, are fantastic resources with a rich and diverse history and I am delighted that they form part of the Wild Atlantic Way.”

“In addition, this 2500km driving route includes several important Gaeltacht areas. The Wild Atlantic Way captures all elements of our heritage and showcases to tourists what is unique about Ireland. I am confident that the route will be a great success”, the Minister concluded.
