Department announces current estimated milk quota position

The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine today published the estimated milk quota position, based on information received from 99% of the Co-ops in respect of milk deliveries up to the end of May 2012. The butter-fat adjusted estimated volume of milk collected in April 2012 was 638,124,638 litres and in May 2012 was 758,797,613 litres. These estimated volumes, when combined, leaves Ireland 2.02% over quota at the end of May 2012.

At this stage in the year, the butter fat adjustment is based on an estimated increase of 1% in the national weighted average butter fat content of the milk delivered during this quota year over the last quota year. This estimate will be reviewed as the year progresses.

The estimated quota position for Ireland at the end of May 2011 was 4.84% over quota.
