Department of Public Expenditure and Reform completes review of Decentralisation Programme

The Government today (16th February, 2012) announced that it had agreed to implement the recommendations of the Review of Certain Decentralisation Programme Projects, which was carried out by the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform in liaison with the OPW and the relevant Departments.

Welcoming the decision, the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, Brendan Howlin, T.D., stated “The Government has brought certainty to the ill conceived decentralisation programme introduced by the previous Government. Following on from our decision last November, where 40 projects were cancelled and 32 projects where permanent accommodation has been provided were left in situ, the remaining 22 projects have now been reviewed. While the viable projects will remain in situ, where it has been decided that a project is no longer viable and temporary accommodation has been procured the lease will be terminated to deliver savings on accommodation costs”.
