€750,000 provided to Kerry County Council for essential remedial works at the Tralee/ Fenit Harbour - Deenihan

Jimmy Deenihan TD, Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht welcomed the announcement today (Monday 20th February, 2012) of significant funding by his colleague Leo Varadkar TD Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport towards remedial works to be carried out at Tralee/Fenit Harbour.

Minister Deenihan said “During the course of 2011 an agreement was made whereby the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport would help fund remedial works for a two year period. A sum of €750,000 is being provided to Kerry County Council for essential remedial works at the Harbour.”

The works to be carried out include:

· repairs to the West Quay;

· repairs to Access Viaduct;

· Spring Pier Cathodic Protection; and

· Marina Cathodic protection.

“I am delighted that this funding has been secured. In straitened circumstances it is of primary importance that we do not neglect essential maintenance of major infrastructural projects such as the Tralee/Fenit Harbour” added Minister Deenihan.
