Expressions of Interest sought for consideration for appointment to the Board of the National Disability Authority

The Minister for Justice, Equality and Defence, Alan Shatter TD, invites expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced persons who wish to be considered for appointment to the Board of the National Disability Authority (NDA).

This Board will run from 21 December 2013 to 20 December 2017, and the Appointees may be eligible to serve for a second term.

The National Disability Authority, which was established pursuant to the National Disability Authority Act, 1999 is the independent state body providing expert advice on disability policy and practice to the Minister, and promoting Universal Design in Ireland.

The main functions of the Authority as set out in the NDA Act 1999 and the Disability Act 2005 are as follows:

· To provide policy advice to Government and public bodies;

· To undertake, commission and collaborate in disability research and assist in the development of statistical information;

· To advise on standards and guidelines in services to people with disabilities and

· To develop standards, education and promote awareness of Universal Design.
