Festival celebrating French-language and culture launches across Ireland

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade was delighted to launch the Festival de la Francophonie 2020 this morning in Iveagh House.

The Festival de la Francophonie is an annual celebration of the French-language and cultural diversity in the French-speaking world. This year’s festival will see a variety of cultural events, talks and debates taking place across Ireland from 26 February to 6 April, involving music, literature, and film.

Speaking today, Secretary General Niall Burgess said:

I am delighted with the launch of the Festival de la Francophonie this morning. Ireland was honoured to receive observer status of the International Organisation of the Francophonie in 2018, and we are very pleased to be able to have such a vibrant festival here every year.

In addition to celebrating our cultural diversity, this year’s festival will highlight the shared values of member states, including peace, democracy and human rights. I look forward to seeing yet another exciting calendar of events taking place throughout Ireland.
