Flanagan congratulates MEP Mairead McGuinness on her first-ballot election as European Parliament Vice President
The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Charlie Flanagan TD has today welcomed the re-election of Mairead McGuinness as European Parliament Vice President. He said
“I am delighted that Mairead McGuinness’ hard work and dedication have been rewarded by her re-election as Vice President of the EU Parliament. The esteem in which Mairead is held by her colleagues is evident in the fact that she was the first Vice President elected, and that this happened on the first ballot, with over 50% more votes than she needed. It is important and useful to have an Irish MEP in this prestigious position, and I’m sure that she will work very effectively with the new European Parliament President, her EPP colleague, Antonio Tajani.”
