Government Chief Whip and Minister of State for the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Islands., Joe McHugh, announced today, 4 October, that he has sanctioned a grant of up to €224,824 for Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne Teo, Ballyferriter, Co. Kerry, to enable them to undertake activities aimed at strengthening the use of the Irish Language as the primary language in the Gaeltacht, especially among young people and families with young children on the Corca Dhuibhne peninsula.

Announcing the grant, Minister of State McHugh said that he was pleased to be in a position to help Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne in light of the good work done by the organisation on the Corca Dhuibhne peninsula.

Minister of State McHugh said:

The members of Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne do great work in West Kerry in terms of promoting the Irish language and in terms of acquisition of the language, especially among young people in the area. By sanctioning this significant funding, I hope that Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne will be able to make good use of it. In addition to this particular grant, another allowance will also be available to support the implementation of the area’s language plan. When all of these investments are taken together, not to mention the capital assistance which has been put to good use in the area, there is no doubt of the earnest intention of my Department to support the area of Corca Dhuibhne.

This funding is being sanctioned in accordance with actions 2.13 and 2.14 of the Community and Language Supports Programme under Area for Action 2: An Ghaeltacht in the Government's Action Plan 2018-2022 as part of the 20 Year Strategy for the Irish Language.
