McEntee opens teh Strokestown Agricultural show

Shane McEntee TD, Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine Officially opened the Strokestown Agricultural show on Saturday 8th September in Co. Roscommon.                                                                                         

Minister McEntee praised the show committee for organising another excellent community event, one that attracted a very high standard of entry from across the region to compete for prestigious prizes. The Minister said “the two day show is designed to cater for the traditional show classes like cattle and sheep, but also has a heavy emphasis on attracting younger and urban visitors with a range of attractions throughout the second day on Sunday. This show not only boasts some of Ireland’s finest livestock, but also has a wide selection of competitions for garden produce, home cooking, arts and crafts which is bound to attract a high standard of entry from competitors both young and old”. Minister McEntee also welcomed the generous local sponsorship provided by a host of loyal sponsors. “Strokestown show is now in its 146th year and has grown to become one of the largest shows in the country. This is due the hard work of the local organising committee under the Chairman John O’Beirne. The organisers have shown great initiative and enterprise again this year in the quality of the programme”, said the Minister.  In conclusion, he took the opportunity of wishing the organizing committee, exhibitors, sponsors, the many visitors, and indeed everybody involved with the Strokestown show an enjoyable day out.
