Statement by the Minister for Justice, Equality and Defence, Mr. Alan

I would like to commend those involved in the Garda operation and

investigation into this morning's business kidnapping which involved the

wife and family of a senior An Post employee. I want to express my sympathy

with the family who were the victims of this traumatic incident. The crime

of what is commonly known as tiger kidnapping is odious and as a society we

have to take whatever steps are necessary to ensure such criminal acts are

not successful. The cooperation of all employees in the financial services

and cash handling sectors with the Gardaí is of paramount importance when

dealing with this type of crime.
