Notes to the Editor:

The EU promotion and information policy supplements and reinforces the national schemes run by the Member States by boosting the image (generic) in the eyes of consumers. Promotion and publicity programmes are subject to the approval of the European Commission who will finance the programme to a maximum of 50% of the total cost, with the balance funded by the industry. The EU information campaigns/promotion programmes are carried out under Regulation (EC) No 501/2008 laying down detailed rules for the application of Council Regulation (EC) No 3/2008 on information provision and promotion measures for agricultural products on the internal market and in third countries.
