Minister Deenihan congratulates Colm Tóibín on making the Man Booker shortlist

Jimmy Deenihan T.D., Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, has extended his congratulations to the Irish writer Colm Tóibín, whose novel The Testament of Mary has been selected on the final shortlist of six books for this year’s Man Booker Prize.

The Testament of Mary was named on the thirteen-book long list in July alongside the works of Tóibín’s fellow Irish novelists Colum McCann (TransAtlantic) and debut author Donal Ryan (The Spinning Heart).

Minister Deenihan commented: “The shortlist is again eloquent in its testimony to the enduring strength and quality of Irish writing. Our writers continue to be pre-eminent globally in their field and universally popular. Indeed, in a changing world, quality Irish writing is a constant. I wish those on the shortlist every success in the final selection.”

The Man Booker Prize winner will be announced on the 15th October.
