Tuesday 3rd December 2013: Jimmy Deenihan TD, Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, will this evening (8 p.m.) launch the book - The Summit: How Triumph Turned To Tragedy On K2’s Deadliest Days by Pat Falvey and Pemba Gyalje at Waterways Ireland, Grand Canal Quay, Ringsend, Dublin 4.

The book tells the story of one of the worst tragedies in modern mountaineering history in which 11 climbers died on K2 during the 2008 expedition season. Minister Deenihan commented: "K2 is of course renowned as one of the world’s toughest climbs. It the world’s second highest mountain and also the deadliest – the statistics show that one in four who attempt it will die.
