Minister Deenihan praises Ruairi Quinn - a politician who always worked for positive reform

The Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Jimmy Deenihan, T.D., has today (Wednesday, 2nd July) paid tribute to his colleague Ruairi Quinn T.D., after his announcement that he is stepping down as Minister for Education and Skills.

Minister Deenihan complimented the outgoing Minister on his involvement in developing with him, the historic Charter on ‘Arts in Education’.

Recalling his initial approach to Minister Quinn on the development of a Charter, Mr Deenihan said that the Minister Quinn had been visionary and receptive in the delivery of this joint initiative between his department and the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.

Minister Deenihan commented:

“Minister Quinn’s innate empathy with the arts and his understanding of their value in education has been inspiring and he has shown great foresight.”

Mr Deenihan added:

“Amongst Minister Quinn's many positive legacies, this Charter, and the coming together of the key Departments to deliver on a whole range of commitments in the Charter will long-endure."

“It has been a great privilege to work alongside Minister Quinn around the Cabinet table.”
