Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Leo Varadkar marks St. Patricks Day 2011 in India

Visits Dell HQ, Terminal 3 of Delhi International Airport and meets with representatives of Irish companies in Delhi region

Minister for Transport,Tourism and Sport Leo Varadkar today marked St. Patricks Day in India with a busy schedule of events. The Minister began the day by visiting Dell HQ in Noida where he was given a tour of the facility accompanied by the Irish Ambassador. Following his visit to Dell, the Minister met with members of the business community before travelling by metro to Delhi International Airport for a tour of Terminal 3, including the Aer Rianta International facility ‘Delhi Duty Free’.

Speaking today, Minister Varadkar said: "I am delighted to celebrate St. Patricks Day in India this year, not only because of my personal links with the country, but also as it is my first official visit abroad as a Minister representing Ireland. I have been overwhelmed by the warm welcome I have received and I hope that my visit will strengthen, develop and enhance existing and new business links between Ireland and India that are mutually beneficial."

The Minister continued: "This Government is determined to rebuild Ireland’s reputation internationally and to drive export-led economic recovery. Ireland continues to be a very attractive location for business and we have a young, highly educated, flexible workforce and an export-orientated open economy."

The Minister concluded: "The global economy is improving and we are committed to not only restoring confidence in Ireland, but also to supporting the protection and creation of jobs in industry. My visit to India underpins this premise and we will work hard to foster the links made on this visit and transform the relationship between Ireland and India."
