Minister of State Brian Hayes announces 2012 opening times at OPW Heritage Sites

Brian Hayes TD, Minister of State with special responsibility for the Office of Public Works, today announced the opening times for 2012 for Heritage Sites under the ambit of the Office of Public Works, where a Guide Service is in operation.

The Minister said: “The opening arrangements at all Heritage Sites nationwide have again been reviewed and I am pleased to announce that my office has managed to maintain the balance between conservation, preservation and tourism needs with the ongoing budgetary realities.”

The Minister continued: “I recently confirmed that the “Free Day” on the first Wednesday of every month is to continue in 2012. I am delighted that I can continue with this initiative in these very challenging economic times .”

The Minister concluded: “The importance and cultural significance of OPW Heritage Sites throughout the country cannot be underestimated. I have stated before and think it is worth re-emphasising that the tourism sector will be of critical importance to the re-establishment of financial stability in this country in years to come. I am confident that the excellent array of significant OPW heritage sites will contribute to this process both through their excellent visitor facilities and the value for money that they represent”.
