Minister of State McEntee announces forthcoming payment of annual forestry premiums

Shane McEntee TD, Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine with responsibility for forestry, announced today the roll-out, by his Department, of the annual tax-free forestry premium payments for 2012 by the end of the week.

Speaking during a visit to the forestry plantation of Ms. Ann Vereker in Ferrybank, Co. Kilkenny, the Minister of State said that payments totalling €58.5 million will be issued by his Department in the coming days in respect of over 16,250 forestry plantations nationwide, the majority of which are owned by farmers.

Minister of State McEntee thanked Ms. Vereker for the opportunity to visit and view her forestry plantation and encouraged other landowners to consider forestry as an option on their holdings and "to see it as a means of a regular income from the associated annual forestry premiums, an investment for their future and the production of a raw material for a strong indigenous industry that brings considerable benefits to our economy."
