Minister of State Michael Ring expresses condolences on the death of Seán Óg Ó Ceallacháin

Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Michael Ring TD has expressed his condolences to the family of legendary broadcaster Seán Óg Ó Ceallacháin, who passed away yesterday 17 February 2013.

Minister Ring said: “Seán Óg was one of the most identifiable voices on radio and his Sunday night programme Gaelic Sports Results ran for more than 60 years. His programme was essential listening for any GAA fan and his retirement in 2011 marked the end of an era. I had the pleasure of congratulating him on his retirement and he told me about his excitement to see his beloved Dublin hurlers win their first national title in over 70 years with their win over Kilkenny in the National Hurling League Final in Croke Park that year.”

Minister Ring concluded: Seán Óg achieved the longest career in radio sports broadcasting worldwide and he will be fondly remembered by his many followers in Ireland and around the world. I would like to express my condolences to Seán Óg’s family on the passing of a legend and a gentleman in sports journalism.”
