Minister Ring congratulates cyclist Martyn Irvine on silver medal win in Colombia

Michael Ring TD, Minister of State for Tourism and Sport has congratulated cyclist Martyn Irvine on winning silver at the Scratch Race at the UCI Track Cycling World Championships overnight.

“On behalf of the Irish people I am delighted to congratulate Martyn on this wonderful achievement. As defending Champion, following his magnificent victory last year, he put in a very strong performance to take silver.

“This is a fantastic medal win for Martyn. particularly following his injury last year.

“Martyn is back in action again in the Points Race and I want to wish him the best of luck in this event. 2013 was a very successful year for Irish cycling and this is a great start to what is shaping up to be another exciting year with the Giro D’Italia visiting these shores in May. The visit of the Giro will provide a great opportunity for Ireland, North and South, to be showcased.”
