Minister Shatter announces Ireland's first national Missing Persons Day on Wednesday 4 December, 2013
The Minister for Justice, Equality and Defence, Alan Shatter TD, is delighted to announce the launch of Ireland’s first national Missing Persons Day, which will take place on Wednesday 4th December, 2013 at Farmleigh House, Dublin.
The theme of this inaugural event is ‘Forget Me Not’ which has its origins in a project by Transition Students of Davis College, Mallow, Co. Cork who were awarded Young Social Innovators of the Year 2012.
Speaking today, Minister Shatter said, ‘Ireland's first national Missing Persons Day presents an opportunity for us to remember those who have gone missing and acknowledge the difficulties experienced by their families and friends.
‘It is also important to recognise the invaluable contribution and commitment of An Garda Síochána, the state agencies and voluntary groups working diligently in our communities to highlight the issues and impacts surrounding people who go missing.
‘I look forward to joining with the Garda Commissioner and the families of missing persons in this important ceremony of remembrance and support. ’
