Minister Sherlock welcomes $130 million Pfizer investment

‘Cork and Dublin sites to expand their operations’ - Sherlock

Minister for Research and Innovation, Sean Sherlock, TD today (Thursday) welcomed the announcement by Pfizer that it is to invest $130 million at two of its Irish manufacturing facilities.  $100 million is to be invested at the Grange Castle site in Dublin and $30 Million at the Ringaskiddy site in Cork.

Minister Sherlock said: “This investment by Pfizer Ireland is a statement of intent in relation to their continuing commitment to their Irish operations and helps secure existing jobs.  It is further evidence that measures introduced by Government, under its Action Plan for Jobs, are working with some of the leading companies in the pharmaceutical and lifescience sector choosing to locate operations in Ireland or expand their existing operations.

“This announcement comes just a few days after the Launch of the Synthesis & Solid State Pharmaceutical Centre (SSCP) at the University of Limerick.  The SSCP, a collaboration between 17 companies, of which Pfizer is one, and 8 academic institutions, is focused on the hugely important areas of pharmaceutical process innovation and advanced manufacturing.

“I would particularly like to congratulate the management and staff of the Ringaskiddy site who have clearly played their part in winning this investment which will ensure that Ringaskiddy will be in a position to be considered for future development work on new products”, Minister Sherlock concluded.
