Mr. Maurice Buckley has been appointed by the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform as Chairman of the Office of Public Works (OPW).

Until recently, he was the Chief Executive of the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI). He qualified from UCD with a Masters of Electrical Engineering and later completed an MBA degree in INSEAD in Fontainebleau in France. He worked in Germany for six years both in a technical role and as a management consultant for the Boston Consulting Group. Mr Buckley returned to Ireland during the 1990s to successfully establish a manufacturing company in Roscommon as a subsidiary of a German printing company. In 2007, he joined the NSAI as Chief Executive, taking responsibility for all the standards, metrology and worldwide certification services it offers.

Maurice is looking forward to taking charge of this challenging role in the OPW. “This appointment is one that I find very exciting and I look forward to leading the OPW into the next phase of its long and proud history. I hope to bring the mix of international business and management experience I have gained during my career to help further develop this great organisation.”

Maurice is joining the OPW at a critical point in the implementation of the Catchment Flood Risk Management Plans, the outputs of which are at public consultation stage. He recognises the strategic value to delivering on the Government’s Capital Programme in Flood Risk Management. His role will also encompass managing the State’s significant heritage estate and the properties that provide office accommodation for the Civil Service.
