The Minister for Education and Skills, Richard Bruton visited Belmayne to turn the sod on a new 16 classroom school for St Francis of Assisi. Last Monday June 18^th Minister Bruton turned the sod on the new 16 classroom school for Belmayne ETNS. The schools will be located on a shared campus on a green field site on Belmayne Avenue and construction is anticipated to be completed in Quarter 1 2019.

Over €11.6m is being invested by government to provide these new state of the art facilities for the Belmayne community.

The government have set the ambition to make Ireland’s education and training service the best in Europe within a decade. Ensuring our children are educated in state of the art facilities is important to delivering on that ambition and we are now building more school places than ever before.

Minister Bruton also recently announced four new schools - two primary and two post primary, for the Donaghmede/Howth/Sutton/Baldoyle area to open 2019-2021. These new schools will create 2,800 new school places at primary and second level, in addition to the new schools for Belmayne ETNS and St Francis of Assisi.

Speaking at the new green field site, Minister Bruton said,

I would like to pay tribute to all of the staff, parents and children who have created a warm and welcoming environment in which our children can thrive. I am delighted that their hard work in developing the schools is being backed by an €11.6m, government investment in state of the art facilities. We are also planning ahead commencing the process to establish four new schools over the next 3 years to deliver over 3,600 school places for the area. We are now investing more in school places than at any other period in the history of the State. Since 2011, the capital investment in the school sector amounts to almost €800m in Dublin.
