Minister Burke pays tribute to the vital work of Community Call teams

Minister of State for Planning and Local Government, Peter Burke T.D., today visited the offices of Dublin City Council and paid tribute to the ongoing work of its Community Call team.

Community Call teams around the country have been providing vital practical supports such as the collection and delivery of essential food and medicines to those cocooning, as well as support for those experiencing isolation as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since the end of March, Community Call teams around the country have received more than 55,000 calls and made 21,500 follow-up calls to citizens.

On his visit to the Dublin City Council offices, Minister Burke said:

I want to acknowledge the excellent work of Dublin City Council’s Community Call team, and all the Community Call teams around the country who have supported thousands of our more vulnerable citizens.

Local authorities are here to serve and reach out to communities in whatever way they can during these awful COVID times.

I want to remind the older or more vulnerable members of our community that our local authorities are here to help in terms of the delivery of shopping or medication. Please do not hesitate to use this facility if you need it.

As we know, this message is now particularly important in Dublin, where we are urging everybody to be more vigilant and reduce their contacts.

You can be assured as Minister that I and my team will continue to support you in whatever way we can. Please mind yourselves and stay safe by following all the public health guidance,” concluded the Minister.
