The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Simon Coveney, TD, met today with this year’s United Nations Youth Delegates for Ireland, Lauren Flanagan and Paul Dockery. Throughout the year they will take part in multiple events and will travel to New York in September to attend the UN General Assembly. At the UN, they will work closely with Ireland’s Permanent Mission to the UN and will have the opportunity to represent the youth of Ireland during sessions of the UN committee dealing with human rights issues.

Speaking after the meeting, Minister Coveney said:

"It was a pleasure to welcome Lauren and Paul here to Iveagh House and to congratulate them on their selection as Ireland’s UN Youth Delegates. During their term as UN Youth Delegates, they will have an opportunity to help bring about change and have an impact on decision-making through their advocacy and engagement. The work of Lauren and Paul over the coming year is also important in building awareness of the work of the UN and the role Ireland plays on the global stage.

I look forward to engaging with Lauren and Paul in New York during the United Nations General Assembly and in the year ahead."

The programme seeks to empower young people to be agents of change and foster active global citizenship through engagement with the UN.
