Minister Coveney welcomes Colombian Vice-President and Foreign Minister Ramírez

Minister for Foreign Affairs, Simon Coveney T.D., today met the Vice-President and Foreign Minister of Colombia, H.E. Marta Lucía Ramírez, who is currently visiting Ireland.

“I was delighted to welcome Vice-President and Foreign Minister Ramírez to Iveagh House today. We had an in-depth discussion on Ireland and Colombia’s excellent bilateral relationship and the potential to grow this further. We discussed our strong response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and support for the people of Ukraine, as well as Colombia’s response to the crisis in Venezuela and support for Venezuelan migrants.

“We affirmed our cooperation and shared experiences of peacebuilding and Ireland’s firm support for the implementation of the Colombian Peace Agreement, and we looked to future opportunities for increasing our trade, investment and educational exchanges.”

The Vice-President and Foreign Minister’s visit is another example of the step-change in Ireland’s relationship with the region as envisioned in the Latin America and Caribbean Strategy.

This increased engagement has included a busy Saint Patrick’s Day programme, which saw the Tánaiste, Minister of State Brophy and Minister Martin visiting the region and Ireland gaining Observer State status at the Pacific Alliance earlier this year.
