Minister Deenihan Congratulates CG Philip Grant and Fr. Brendan McBride on winning International Person of the Year Award

Minister for the Diaspora Jimmy Deenihan, TD, today extended congratulations to Consul General of San Francisco Philip Grant and Father Brendan McBride of the Irish Immigration Pastoral Centre, San Francisco, on being jointly awarded International Person of the Year at last night’s Rehab Ireland People of the Year awards ceremony.

Consul General Grant and Father McBride were honoured for the work they did in the aftermath of the Berkeley tragedy in June of this year in which six young Irish people lost their lives in an accident.

Minister Deenihan said:

“I am very proud of the work that Consul General Grant and Father McBride did following the awful tragedy that occurred in Berkeley earlier this year.

"I personally witnessed their tireless efforts in the aftermath of the accident when I travelled to California to express solidarity with those affected.

"Their strength and compassion provided assurance and comfort for many during a very dark time.  They are both very deserving recipients of the award.”
