Minister Denis Naughten announces Government approval of appointments to the Board and Statutory Committees of the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland

The Minister for Communications, Denis Naughten T.D. has secured Government approval for the appointments to the Board and Statutory Committees of the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland. The following appointments have been made:

Broadcasting Authority of Ireland

  • Ms Mary Curtis

BAI Compliance Committee

  • Professor Kevin Rafter (Chair)
  • Ms Eileen Maher

BAI Contract Awards Committee

  • Ms Clodagh O’Donnell

Welcoming the appointments, Minister Naughten said: ‘Today’s appointments bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the Authority and its Statutory Committees. I am delighted to appoint candidates of this calibre and I wish them well in the important work ahead.’The Authority has overall responsibility for the operation and functioning of the BAI, which includes setting the strategic direction of the organisation.The Compliance Committee has the role of ensuring that broadcasters comply with their licence conditions and with the standards set out in the broadcasting codes and rules. The Contract Awards Committee has the role of licensing independent commercial and community broadcasters, such as local radio stations or digital television providers.
