Minister Donohoe welcomes appointment of Mr Aidan Williams as Chairman of the NAMA Board

The Minister for Finance & Public Expenditure and Reform, Mr. Paschal Donohoe T.D., has today (18 December 2019) announced the appointment of Mr. Aidan Williams as Chairman of the Board of NAMA, effective from 21st December 2019. Mr. Williams, who is a current NAMA Board member, will be replacing Mr Frank Daly who has come to the end of his second term as Chairman of NAMA and who is retiring.

Mr Williams was appointed to the Board of NAMA on 2 April 2019 and has over forty years' experience in International Capital Markets, Investment Banking, Fund Management and Stockbroking. Mr Williams is the current Chairman of both Macquarie Capital Ireland DAC and Unicredit Bank Ireland plc.

Commenting on appointment, the Minister for Finance & Public Expenditure and Reform, Mr. Paschal Donohoe T.D., said:

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Mr. Williams on his appointment as Chairman of the NAMA Board, this is an important and demanding role and I wish the Agency continued success under his Chairmanship.

I would also like to thank Mr. Daly, who has completed his second term as Chairman of NAMA. Under his Chairmanship, NAMA has had an overwhelmingly positive impact on the Irish economy at a crucial time in our country’s history and I would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation for his commitment and contribution to the success of the agency since his appointment as Chairman 10 years ago. I wish him well in his retirement.

  • This appointment is being made by the Minister under Section 25 of the NAMA Act whereby on retirement the Minister may nominate one of the appointed members of the NAMA Board as its Chairperson.
  • Following this appointment the Minister will begin the process of appointing new members to the NAMA Board through the Public Appointment Service in early 2020.
