Minister Halligan Welcomes the Leaving Certificate Examination results

The Minister for Training and Skills, John Halligan, T.D congratulated the 58,466 candidates who sat their Leaving Certificate in June and who received their results today.
“I would encourage students who are considering further and higher education to consider courses in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) sectors. There are so many opportunities awaiting young people in the further education and higher education sectors in these growing sectors of our economy. These areas offer qualifications vital to economic prosperity, with exciting career prospects for graduates.
‘Students should take time to consider their next steps after the Leaving Certificate and should not be afraid to take advice in this matter, from parents, teachers and other sources of guidance. Students should be acquainted with the full range of options available to them before making any decision’.
'I am pleased, also to see that the number of external candidates taking the Leaving Certificate (2,819) has increased - a trend that shows the examination can open up opportunities for all.
I would like to congratulate every student, teacher, parent and all the other people across the country who provided support to students leading up to and during examination time for their hard work and commitment. I hope students getting their results today celebrate sensibly with their families and friends and be proud of their achievements.”
