Minister Harris announces Chair of the Independent Assessment Panel of the Cervical Check non-disclosure ex-gratia Scheme

Today, Tuesday 5 March 2019, Simon Harris TD, Minister for Health, announced that Government has appointed Mr Justice Aindrias Ó'Caoimh as Chair of the Independent Assessment Panel for the Cervical Check non-disclosure ex-gratia Scheme.  Mr Justice Ó'Caoimh is a former Judge of the High Court, and of the Court of Justice of the European Union.

The Scheme is designed to provide an alternative, non-adversarial and person centred option for women affected by the CervicalCheck non-disclosure issue. The terms of the Scheme are now being finalised and they will be considered at next week's Government meeting. Following this, the Minister will make a further announcement.

Following on from the Government meeting of 18 December, the Minister confirmed that he is to examine the early establishment of a non-statutory scheme to provide ex-gratia payments for the women affected by the non-disclosure of the audit. The Scheme is designed to provide an alternative, non-adversarial and person-centred option for women affected by the CervicalCheck non-disclosure issue
