Minister Harris pays tribute to outgoing Master of the National Maternity Hospital, Dr Rhona Mahony

Minister for Health, Simon Harris TD has congratulated Dr Rhona Mahony on her mastership of the National Maternity Hospital, Holles Street on her final day in office today.

The Minister visited Dr Mahony in Holles Street this morning to thank her as she finishes her term as Master.

Speaking today, Minister Harris said,

Dr Mahony has proven herself to be a leading obstetrician, a leading advocate for our maternity services and a leading voices for women’s rights. I want to sincerely thank her for her commitment, advocacy and dedication during her tenure.

As the first female Master of Holles Street, she has made history. Her passion for women and infants healthcare has been clear for all to see. As she leaves her Mastership after seven years, I have no doubt this will continue. I look forward to her continuing to play a role in medicine and in shaping and informing public discourse on our maternity services.

I also want to take this opportunity to welcome the Master Elect, Dr Shane Higgins and look forward to working with him as we continue to work collaboratively in the interests of women and infants’ health.
