Minister Kehoe announces approval by Government of three new nominees to next General Assembly of the Irish Red Cross Society
The Minister with Responsibility for Defence Paul Kehoe announced the approval by Government of three new nominees to the next General Assembly of the Irish Red Cross Society, which commences shortly.
The three nominees, who will serve for a three year term are Dr. Muiris O’Ceidigh, Mr. Adrian Harney and Mr. Conor Molloy.
1. Dr. O’Ceidigh is CEO of the National Milk Agency, brings expertise in law and governance and is a board member of the Property Services Regulatory Authority and the Medical Scientists Registration Board.
2. Mr. Adrian Harney is a self-employed Human Resources Consultant and has worked in the not-for-profit sector for a number of years including as a Director of Human Resources in Ability West based in Galway.
3. Mr. Conor Molloy is a Director of the Promontory Financial Group and brings with him considerable expertise and experience in banking, audit and governance.
Speaking after the approval by Government of the three nominees, Minister Kehoe welcomed the nomination of the three high calibre individuals to the General Assembly of the Irish Red Cross and thanked them for agreeing to serve for the next three year term of the General Assembly.
The Minister added that
the considerable expertise and experiences across a wide variety of areas that these individuals bring, will further strengthen the governance of the Irish Red Cross
and he wished them well in their appointment.
Notes to the Editor
Pursuant to the Red Cross Act 1938, the Irish Red Cross Society was established by the Irish Red Cross Society Order 1939 as an independent charitable body corporate. As such, the Irish Red Cross Society has full power to manage and administer its own affairs. While the Society receives an annual grant from the Department of Defence, this is towards the cost of administration only and the Department of Defence has no policy oversight role.
In accordance with the Irish Red Cross Society (Amendment) Order, 2012 (S.I. No. 133 of 2012), the Government may nominate up to 10% of the membership of the Society’s General Assembly. The maximum number the Government can nominate to the General Assembly at present is three.
