Minister Madigan attends ‘Greening’ event in Stockholm

Minister for Culture, Josepha Madigan, has today attended Tourism Ireland’s ‘greening’ event at the Vasa Ship in Stockholm. Today is the fourth day of the Minister’s trade and culture mission to Norway and Sweden, where she is attending a range of cultural, tourism and economic engagements.

Speaking at the Maritime Museum St Patrick’s Day Reception yesterday, Minister Madigan said:

“St. Patrick’s Day is a time of celebration in Ireland and for all of those of Irish descent and affinity around the world. We celebrate the contribution of Irish people across the globe. St Patrick’s Day allows us renew these vital relationships, and to also acknowledge the positive impact that our partners around world, such as Sweden, have had, and continue to have, on Ireland. We’re also clear about our commitment to the EU and will be working closely with Sweden and others in continuing to make Europe a place of prosperity and security for our citizens.”

Later today, Minister Madigan will visit Uppsala University where she will meet with Vice Chancellor Eva Åkesson and present two scholarships to students to visit the Gaeltacht, supported by the Minister’s Department.

Tomorrow, the Minister will lead the Stockholm St Patrick’s Day’s parade through the centre of Stockholm to the historic Gamla Stan – Old City.
