Minister Madigan pays tribute to Tom Murphy
The Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Josepha Madigan, has today paid tribute to award-winning playwright Tom Murphy, following the announcement of his death.
A playwright who worked closely with the Abbey Theatre and the Druid Theatre Company, his great works include A Whistle in the Dark, The Sanctuary Lamp, The Gigli Concert, Famine and Bailegangaire.
Speaking today Minister Madigan said:
Tom Murphy was a true great of Irish theatre and writing. Since the 1960s, his provocative work has provided a unique insight into many of the great themes and experiences of Irish people. His work also inspired many of our current leading playwrights. A great life lived.
