Josepha Madigan T.D., Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, has today (Wednesday) welcomed the announcement that Lynn Scarff has been named as the incoming Director of the National Museum of Ireland.  She succeeds Dr Raghnall Ó Floinn who will retire from the post in May of this year.

Speaking today Minister Madigan said:

“Ms Scarff brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this important role.  In addition to her work as Director of The Science Gallery in Dublin and as a serving board member of the National Museum of Ireland, she has worked with numerous cultural and educational institutions.  Her passion for culture, science and the arts leaves her well equipped to undertake this challenging and rewarding role.

“Ms Scarff succeeds Mr Raghnall Ó Floinn, who has been Director of the National Museum of Ireland since 2013. I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge Mr Ó Floinn’s huge contribution to the National Museum since he joined as an Assistant Keeper in the Irish Antiquities Division in 1976 and I wish him well in his upcoming retirement in May.”
