Ministers congratulate Pavee Point on winning the 2020 Max van der Stoel Award

The Award is given to organisations or individuals for extraordinary and outstanding achievements in improving the position of national minorities

Department of Justice will provide a funding of allocation €220,506 to Pavee Point in 2020.

The Minister for Justice, Helen McEntee TD, and the Minister for Children, Disability, Equality and Integration, Roderic O’Gorman TD, have congratulated Pavee Point following its selection as the winner of the 2020 Max van der Stoel Award.

Minister McEntee said,

I want to congratulate Pavee Point on being selected as a recipient of this prestigious international award. Pavee Point works tirelessly in addressing inequality in Irish society and supporting the Traveller and Roma Community, and the Department of Justice works closely with them supporting this goal.

Minister O’Gorman also congratulated Pavee Point on its achievement, and added,

Pavee Point plays a vital role in improving the quality of life of Travellers and Roma and addressing the real needs of these communities. It is heartening to see that the Organisation’s important work is being recognised and acknowledged.

The Department of Justice has awarded over €220,000 in funding to Pavee Point for 2020, including funding related to COVID-19 emergency measures.

The Award – named after the distinguished Dutch statesman and first OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities, Max van der Stoel, – in the amount of €50,000 was established by the Netherlands’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2001. It is awarded biennially to an individual, group or institution in recognition of extraordinary and outstanding achievements aimed at promoting integration and social cohesion in the OSCE participating States.

The Award ceremony will take place in The Hague on 16 November 2020, in accordance with local COVID-19 measures related to gatherings prevailing at the time.
