Minister for European Affairs, Ms. Helen McEntee T.D., launched the 14th International Organisations Career Development Roundtable today in the Printworks, Dublin Castle.
This year’s Career Development Roundtable (CDR) was organised by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Public Appointments Service in conjunction with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The purpose of the CDR is to bring together International Organisations from across the multilateral sector with a view to improving management and strategic positioning of Human Resources in such organisations. The network created by this event enables the sharing of best practices, policies, tools and ideas within the Human Resources sector.
Organisations from across the multilateral sector are represented in particular those from the United Nations System, the European Union and international financial institutions.
The CDR will be held across Tuesday and Wednesday while Thursday will see an International Careers Fair in the Printworks, Dublin Castle attended by those interested in the opportunities available in international organisations.
Welcoming the CDR delegates this morning, Minister McEntee spoke of the importance of events such as this;
“Events like this provide an incredible opportunity for people from all over the world to bring their insights, wisdom and knowledge to one forum.”
The Minister went on to speak of Ireland’s close links with the United Nations saying that
“Ever since we joined in December 1955 Ireland has worked closely with the UN. This week’s event is another in a long list of examples of excellent co-operation between Ireland and the UN. Indeed, Ireland hopes to continue our close relationship with the UN by becoming a member of the UN Security Council in 2020.”
The Minister took the opportunity to highlight the series of Citizens Dialogues on the Future of Europe that are currently being held. She said
“It is by coming together to share ideas and opinions that progress can be made in the HR world. So it is too with the issue of the Future of Europe. I am currently engaged in a series of Citizens Dialogues where people from all walks of life will have the opportunity to share with me their views on the Future of Europe’’.
This series of Citizens Dialogues was launched by the Taoiseach on the 15th of November last and will run until the 9th of May next year, Europe Day. The Minister concluded by saying that
‘’I am eager to hear the ideas and opinions of as many people as possible so that when decisions are being made about our collective future, the views of all interested parties will be heard at the table.”
