Minister McGrath Launches NSSO Strategy for the Future

The Minster for Public Expenditure and Reform, Michael McGrath, TD today (Wednesday) launched the Statement of Strategy 2021 – 2023 for the National Shared Services Office.

 

Minster Michael McGrath said:

“I am pleased to launch the NSSO Strategy which  builds on the progress made since the organisation was established, and allows it to continue to modernise and lead the transformation of public administration through process, technological and digital innovation, that will lead to a Civil Service more digitally enabled to serve Government and the public interest."

The NSSO introduced self-service access through online platforms to the Civil Service for HR and payroll services, and uses robotic process automation, to bring faster and more efficient services to its customers. It has enabled automated report generation that assists Government Departments make more data-driven decisions.

The NSSO, as an all-of-Government shared services provider, partners with Government Departments and a range of Public Service Bodies, 55 in total, providing HR and pensions services to 38,300 civil servants, and payroll and related services to 144,300 public servants, including 60,000 pensioners, valued at over €5.5 billion.

Hilary Murphy-Fagan, CEO, NSSO, said: “Technological changes that have been influencing society are having a profound impact on the world of work. Now more than ever since Covid-19, public service organisations and workplaces must become ever more agile, to adapt and benefit from new digital technologies. The NSSO is an ambitious organisation that is on a path to grow and embed excellence in its current services and increase its offering to the Civil Service, through process and digital innovation.

“As a service organisation, we rely on our people for our success and this strategy gives us the opportunity to continue to invest in and develop new skills and deploy our skills in new areas.”

This is the second Statement of Strategy for the National Shared Services Office, a statutory Civil Service Office which was established in 2018.

Speaking at the launch of the Strategy, Minister McGrath concluded:

“I want to acknowledge the essential role the NSSO has also played over the last year, in assisting with the delivery of Government services and rapidly responding to the challenges and advantages that Covid-19 brought through remote working. 

“The NSSO ensured that their Civil Service colleagues could continue, not only to get paid, but also have unbroken access to the most essential of their services, so that they, in turn could continue doing their jobs. 

I have every confidence that the NSSO’s management team and staff will achieve these goals supported by the continued commitment of this Government, my own and other Departments. I look forward to supporting the CEO and her staff in implementing this strategy, and I wish them all well in the years ahead.”
