Minister Mitchell-O’Connor urges prospective students to apply for their student grant to SUSI before the 13th of July deadline

The Minister of State for Higher Education, Mary Mitchell O’Connor TD, today urged prospective students to apply to SUSI for their student grants before the 13th of July deadline – Thursday of this week.

The Student Grant Scheme for the 2017/18 academic year opened on the 31st of March. This early opening date will facilitate earlier decisions for students on their grant applications. This year’s scheme highlighted a number of improvements for some of the most disadvantaged students including the reintroduction of maintenance grants for postgraduate students.

The Minister said “I encourage all prospective students who have yet to submit their application, to log on to SUSI’s website before Thursday’s deadline.”

Note for Editors

SUSI expects to receive over 105,000 applications for the 2017/18 academic year. To date it has received over 74,000 applications and provisionally awarded grants to circa 39,000 students. All new applications received by SUSI before next Thursday (July 13th) will be prioritised for processing.

Prospective applicants can log onto SUSI’s website (www.susi.ie) for information on the eligibility criteria for grant funding and details of how to make a grant application. The website includes useful videos to assist students wishing to apply for grant support.
